Discover the latest trends in player counts for Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) and its first exciting collaboration.
Monster Hunter Wilds’ Player Count Goes Way Down
From Over 1 Million to 40k
Since its launch, Monster Hunter Wilds has quickly risen to become one of the most popular games of the year, setting records as Capcom’s fastest-selling title. However, three months post-launch, the game's concurrent player count has significantly declined.
According to insights from Monster Hunter enthusiast and YouTuber Zenny, MH Wilds' player numbers have dropped by half since May. The latest data from SteamDB shows a 24-hour peak of 41,101 players for MH Wilds, which is drawing closer to the concurrent player count of the older yet still robust MH World, currently sitting at 26,479 players.
Comparatively, in its third month on Steam, MH World boasted over 100,000 concurrent players, a number that MH Wilds has not been able to match, with its third month seeing only around 40,000 players. This drop-off is largely attributed to the perceived lack of endgame content in MH Wilds, despite the release of Title Update 1. Fans are hopeful that the upcoming second Title Update this summer will bring new monsters, events, and more, potentially revitalizing the player base.
MH Wilds x Street Fighter Collab Teased
Adding to the anticipation, MH Wilds is set to collaborate with another beloved Capcom franchise, Street Fighter. A teaser image shared on Twitter (X) on May 19, featuring a paw mark styled in Street Fighter 6’s distinctive urban aesthetic, has sparked excitement among fans.
While official details are yet to be confirmed, the history of successful collaborations between the Monster Hunter and Street Fighter series in past games like MH World suggests that this crossover could include exciting elements such as Ryu and Sakura armor sets, paid DLC featuring iconic gestures like Hadoken and Shoryuken, and perhaps even a Handler's Chun-Li Costume.
This would be MH Wilds’ inaugural collaboration, and fans are eager to see how Capcom will integrate these popular elements into the game. Monster Hunter's history of collaborations with various IPs, including Devil May Cry, Sonic for MH4, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem for MH Gen U, and Assassin’s Creed and Megaman for MH World, showcases the series' versatility and appeal.
With a promising lineup of updates and collaborations on the horizon, many anticipate a resurgence in MH Wilds' player base. Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates on Monster Hunter Wilds by checking out our dedicated article below!
