Nintendo Switch 2: Joy-Con Mouse Controls for Home Menu Navigation

Authore: AnthonyUpdate:May 27,2025

Nintendo has exciting news for fans eagerly awaiting the Switch 2: you'll be able to navigate the Home screen using the new Joy-Con's innovative mouse controls. Ever since the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, the gaming community has been buzzing with speculation about the potential uses of the new Joy-Con's mouse functionality. Last month, we received official confirmation that the Joy-Con can indeed operate in "mouse mode," allowing players to slide the controllers across surfaces and use the analog sticks to simulate left-click and right-click actions, much like a standard mouse. Moreover, you can use two Joy-Con in mouse mode simultaneously, one in each hand, or pair one in standard mode with the other in mouse mode for a versatile gaming experience.

And the excitement doesn't stop there. As demonstrated on the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, these Joy-Con 2 mouse controls extend to the Home menu of the Switch 2. Nintendo Today provided a glimpse into how these controls will function on the Switch 2 home screen.

Nintendo explains that if you "place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen." To activate the cursor, simply set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or any flat surface and move it as instructed. "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," Nintendo adds, "and use mouse controls on the Home menu and in compatible software." To revert to using the thumbstick, just position the Joy-Con 2 horizontally once more.

Although we're still waiting to see the full list of games that will support these mouse controls, Nintendo has already showcased their compatibility with the Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.
