Tuscaloosa Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a thief who robbed a convenience store while wearing a Scooby-Doo costume.
Surveillance footage from the Quick Stop on Highway 82 shows the suspect, dressed as the classic cartoon character, emptying coins from gaming machines during last weekend's incident.
The individual briefly removed the Scooby-Doo headpiece, but—unlike the cartoon—he had taken precautions: he also wore a balaclava to conceal his face. Zoinks.
Authorities describe the suspect as a white male, approximately 5'9", and are seeking information about his identity. (Isn't it always someone in a disguise?)
Photos shared on the Tuscaloosa Police Department's Facebook page show the individual walking through the store at 3:45 a.m. Police confirmed he stole cash and coins but left the snacks behind. Really, no munchies?
In a follow-up post, the department shared an image of the Mystery Machine van parked outside their station, joking, "We’ve questioned the vehicle's owners but haven't found any solid leads. Stay alert for suspicious caretakers, and don't meddle if you spot the suspect."

Could this be part of a viral marketing campaign for Netflix's upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series?
Earlier this year, Netflix confirmed plans for a modern reimagining of the classic show. The series will follow Shaggy, Daphne, Velma, and Freddy as they look into a supernatural murder at a summer camp, assisted by their special canine companion.
