Helldivers 2's phenomenal success shows no signs of slowing down, as it recently clinched two BAFTA Game Awards: Best Multiplayer and Best Music. These victories come from a total of five nominations, marking the end of a successful awards season for Swedish developer Arrowhead. This accolade underscores what has been an exceptional year for the studio.

It's worth recalling that Helldivers 2 holds the record as the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever, with an impressive 12 million copies sold within just 12 weeks of its launch. This milestone is unlikely to be surpassed by any other first-party Sony title. Since its explosive debut, the game has navigated through various challenges, including a reversal on PSN account requirements for Steam users, review-bombing campaigns, and a community often at odds with the game itself over balancing changes.
Arrowhead has faced the challenge of managing a significantly larger and more mainstream audience than ever before. Now, 14 months after Helldivers 2's release on PC and PlayStation 5, the question arises: how does Arrowhead view its past achievements and challenges? Has the studio finally adapted to the demanding world of live-service gaming? Following their collaboration with Killzone, could a partnership with Warhammer 40,000 be on the horizon?
To delve deeper into these questions, IGN had the opportunity to sit down with Alex Bolle, the production director of Helldivers 2.
