In a fascinating revelation from a recent interview, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the former lead quest designer of The Witcher 3, shared insights into the challenges CD Projekt Red faced when integrating a grand narrative into an open-world setting. Initially, the team at CDPR had doubts about whether such an ambitious story could seamlessly blend with the expansive freedom of an open-world game.

"Few games have dared to attempt what we did: blending expansive storytelling techniques, usually reserved for linear RPGs with corridor-like structures, such as The Witcher 2, and adapting them to fit an open-world experience," Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz.
Despite these initial reservations, CDPR's team bravely ventured forward, resulting in the creation of one of the most acclaimed RPGs of all time—The Witcher 3. Today, Tomaszkiewicz is at the helm of Rebel Wolves, steering the development of their upcoming title, The Blood of Dawnwalker. This new game is set in an alternate medieval Eastern Europe steeped in dark fantasy, with vampires at its heart.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series platforms. While an official release date remains under wraps, fans can look forward to a gameplay reveal this summer, promising a fresh narrative experience that blends the best of open-world freedom with intricate storytelling.
